Nina has always been passionate about the water. Growing up in Victoria, she spent 16 years as a competitive synchronized swimmer and coach. After becoming a physiotherapist, hydrotherapy seemed like a natural addition to her treatments.

Even after years of experience with hydrotherapy, Nina is still amazed by the benefits clients experience. She is a strong advocate for its use for a variety of injuries, limitations and disabilities. She is passionate about working together with her clients to reach their goals and getting them back to the things they love.

Nina graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 2008 before continuing on to complete her Master of Physical Therapy from the University of British Columbia in 2012. Since then she has been working in private practice physiotherapy in Victoria and has continued her professional development by completing courses in functional dry needling/IMS, acupuncture, manual therapy, concussions and vestibular disorders and TMJ dysfunctions.

Kira Graduated in 2011 from the University of British Columbia with a Human Kinetics Degree, Majoring in Kinesiology and Health Sciences. She applied her skills by working for many years in Recreation and Rehabilitation avenues before going back to school to complete her Masters in Physiotherapy from UBC in 2018.

Originally from South Africa, Kira grew up in North Vancouver as an avid athlete, and her experience recovering from numerous sports injuries spurred her interest in the rehabilitative sciences. Her personal connection to sports, led to many coaching and educational opportunities early on. Her athletic career combined with personal experiences as she witnessed those close to her struggle in their own health journeys propelled her interest in Physiology and Exercise Sciences.

Kira has special interest in movement-based rehabilitation, believing that Physiotherapy plays a major role in supporting individuals to experience movement in a positive way and to tailor movement and body loading principals to help you reach your goals. She has experience working with many populations ranging from young athletes, to weekend warriors, office workers, tradespersons, seniors, those with medical conditions such as COPD, Arthritis, MS, ALS, Parkinson’s (to name a few), as well as those requiring support recovering from procedures or new injuries (e.g. total knee and hip replacements, spinal surgeries, shoulder surgeries, knee - ACL and meniscal surgeries, post-stroke, post-MVA, and much more).

As a student at UBC, her passions lay in implementing exercise rehabilitation programs and seminars for UBC employees with a focus on functional strength and back care. She was an enthusiastic student member of the “Changing Aging” gym at UBC and was involved in programs at the gym as well as numerous research studies involving exercise-based interventions for Seniors. Kira was also part of the student-body team that volunteered to provide Health-based initiatives to the UBC student-body. As well, she was a Thunderbird, representing UBC in Field Hockey as a Varsity Athlete, and is proud to have a National Title under her belt! As a Kinesiologist, Kira later expanded her Rehabilitation approaches to the water, gaining experience providing programs and education in Hydrotherapy in both private and group-based programming. As an MPT student, Kira was the student-member of the Private Practice Board at PABC (Physiotherapy Association of BC) involved in identifying areas for Quality improvement for Association Members.

Kira continues to enjoy being involved in community and professional development. She seeks out Continuing Education opportunities, having added IMS (Dry Needling) treatment to her repertoire, working through some Manual Therapy Levels, and signing up for many weekend and online courses and mentorship sessions. She thrives on learning from others and is intent on maintaining her participation in her community.

Currently, Kira’s passion lies in implementing Physiotherapy treatment in the Hydrotherapy environment. She believes strongly in the therapeutic properties of water and has seen it help with the movement and functional goals of her patients time and time again! Kira strongly believes in working WITH clients to identify their needs and goals. She prides herself on providing clients with the most up- to-date evidence-based treatment techniques and rehabilitation protocols. She is able to apply her knowledge to each person’s unique experience or problem and to impart the education necessary for clients to make informed health decisions.

Kira’s ultimate goal is to empower her patients to be in command of their own recovery and overall health journey.

Kira is excited and humbled to be part of the Fluid Movement Physio team!
